Suncorp Bank statement to CSV

Drop the Suncorp Bank PDF as you downloaded it. It is converted on your computer, and we check every row against the running balance, compare the totals with the ones Suncorp Bank printed and check that the rows carry the opening balance to the closing one. Then download it for your accounting software or a spreadsheet.

Getting the PDF out of Suncorp Bank

  1. Log in to Suncorp Bank Internet Banking.
  2. Click eStatements in the left-hand menu to see the list of available statements.

You see eStatements only for the accounts you have permission to access, and Suncorp Bank’s business help says you can save, download or print them anytime.

Internet Banking and the Suncorp Bank App hold eStatements issued since 1 July 2013. For anything older, send a secure message in Internet Banking or contact Suncorp Bank, and they will send copies free of charge.

A closed account’s eStatements stay viewable in Internet Banking if eStatements were on when it closed, as long as you haven’t deactivated online banking. If they don’t show, re-add the account to Internet Banking first.

From Suncorp Bank’s own help: I need a copy of my eStatements, how can I get them?, Internet Banking Help For Businesses.

What a Suncorp Bank statement looks like, and what we do with it

Each statement we tested is a single page of transactions: the BSB, account number and Statement Period at the left, an Account Summary at the right, then Account Transactions under Date, Transaction Details, Withdrawal, Deposit and Balance. Every row prints its full date with a four-digit year, and rows run oldest first. At the foot, a line says the details continue on the back of the page, beside the statement number.

An overdrawn balance prints with a minus after the figure, in the table and in the Account Summary alike.
We read it as below zero, so a balance that dips under and comes back is still checked row by row.
The Account Summary prints its totals with the sign after the dollar figure: a minus after Total Withdrawals and a plus after Total Deposits.
We compare our money out and money in with them, to the cent.
The table opens with an Opening Balance row and ends with CLOSING BALANCE, neither of them dated.
We take the two balances from them, check that the rows carry one to the other, and leave both out of the export.
A bank cheque takes two rows: BANK CHQ WDL with the cheque number and the branch, and below it who the cheque was made out to, then a BANK CHEQUE FEE carrying the same number.
We join the name to its cheque and keep the fee as a row of its own, so each matches its line on the statement.

What this page is based on

Seven Business Everyday statements of one company’s account, from 2013 and 2014: the first five months of the account, starting from Statement No: 1 and an opening balance of nothing, then two later months, the last recording the account’s closure. Each is a single page of between 1 and 15 transactions, and none failed any of the three checks, overdrawn months included. The five consecutive months read as one unbroken account when opened together, and opened with the two later months, all seven join in the order they ran, with a gap marked before each of the later two. The closure ends on nothing, as the first month opens, yet it still comes last.

Our Suncorp Bank statements are more than a decade old, and a Business Everyday statement downloaded from Internet Banking today may be laid out differently; we have not seen one. Nor have we run a Suncorp Bank credit card statement.

Once it is converted, the import steps for each accounting package are the same for every bank.

Questions

Can I still get Suncorp statements from before July 2013?

Not from Internet Banking, which holds eStatements issued since 1 July 2013. For older ones, Suncorp Bank asks you to send a secure message in Internet Banking or contact them, and they send copies free of charge. Two of the statements we tested date from just before that cut-off, and both passed every check.

Internet Banking exports CSV and OFX. Why convert the PDF?

Suncorp Bank’s business help says Internet Banking downloads up to 2 years of transactions, depending on the account type, as CSV, OFX, QIF or ASCII. For anything older the eStatement is what is left, and only the PDF carries the Account Summary and running balance we check each row against.

The statement says the details continue on the back. Do I need that page?

Each statement we tested was its front page alone, and on every one the table closed with CLOSING BALANCE on that page, so the checks had all they needed. If your table runs past the first page, keep the pages together in one PDF and we read them as one table.

Does the statement for a closed Suncorp account convert?

The one we tested did. Its only row was BANK ACCOUNT CLOSURE, which brought an overdrawn balance back to nothing, and it passed all three checks: the row matched the balance, the totals matched the Account Summary, and the opening balance carried through to a closing balance of zero.

Privacy, scans and price work the same for every bank, and the home page answers them.
