Regions statement to CSV

Drop the Regions PDF as you downloaded it. It is converted on your computer, and we compare the totals with the ones Regions printed and check that the rows carry the opening balance to the closing one. Then download it for your accounting software or a spreadsheet.

Getting the PDF out of Regions

  1. In Online Banking, choose Online Statements from the Accounts menu.
  2. On the Online Statements & Documents page, find the statement and view or download the PDF.

Enrolling in Online Banking switches on online statements for small business checking, savings and money market accounts as well as personal ones, and while you stay enrolled Regions lets you view, save or print up to seven years of them.

A statement you can no longer reach online can be ordered under the Customer Service menu, Services, then Order Statements & Check Copies, for a fee, or at a branch.

On Regions iTreasury, the treasury platform, statements sit under the Reporting tab as Online Statements, again with up to seven years of history, and several can be downloaded at once into a ZIP file.

What a Regions statement looks like, and what we do with it

Regions prints no column headings over its transactions. The product name and the period, written out as month, day and year, sit above a SUMMARY panel; below it each kind of entry has a heading of its own, DEPOSITS & CREDITS, WITHDRAWALS and FEES, and each row is a date like 09/14 with no year, a description and an unsigned amount, with the section’s total on the line after. An empty section is left out, so a month without deposits goes straight from the summary to WITHDRAWALS. The statement closes on a DAILY BALANCE SUMMARY and an Easy Steps to Balance Your Account worksheet.

Rows are listed under DEPOSITS & CREDITS, WITHDRAWALS and FEES, each amount printed without a sign, and no row carries a balance.
We take each row’s direction from the heading it sits under, so a fee is money out.
The Summary splits money out into Withdrawals, Fees and Checks, and every figure in it is followed by a space and its sign, + for money in and - for money out, with an Automatic Transfers line among them.
We add the three money-out lines together and compare our money out with the sum, and our money in with Deposits & Credits.
The DAILY BALANCE SUMMARY sets three dates and balances across each line, and can run onto the next page as DAILY BALANCE SUMMARY (CONTINUED), where a line holding one date and one balance looks just like a transaction.
We read none of it as a transaction.
Each statement numbers its own pages, Page 1 of 3, so where months are bound into one file, as in a court filing, every month starts again at Page 1.
We read the months as one statement of the account, check that each opens on the balance the one before closed on, and tell you the page each month begins on.

What this page is based on

Two files from two companies, both from 2022: one month of LifeGreen Business Simple Checking, and two months of LifeGreen Business Checking filed together as a court exhibit. With no balance beside any row, each was held to the two checks a Regions statement allows: our deposits and our money out matched the Summary’s figures, and the rows took the Beginning Balance to the Ending Balance. The bound pair came out as one statement without a gap, the second month opening on what the first closed on, even though that month had no deposits at all.

Regions also sells Advantage Business Checking, Business Interest Checking and LifeGreen Not-for-Profit Checking, and none of those has reached us, nor a personal LifeGreen Checking statement or a Sage Business Visa card statement. Nothing here shows which Regions service our two were printed from, so an iTreasury statement may differ in ways we have not met.

Once it is converted, the import steps for each accounting package are the same for every bank.

Questions

Our Regions statement has a checks section. Has that been tested?

Not yet. In both statements we read, the Checks line of the Summary was zero and no checks were listed, so we have not seen how Regions sets out paid checks. The Summary still prints that Checks figure, and it goes into the money out we compare, so a check row we missed or misread would leave the totals unequal, and we would show you that rather than a clean file.

Can our bookkeeper get the statements from Regions Online Banking?

Regions’ People & Permissions service, one of its Online Banking Business Services, adds users and sets which accounts each can see, at a monthly fee. Regions’ walkthrough of it mentions View Only access for a bookkeeper or accountant, but does not say whether that includes statements, so check with Regions before counting on it.

iTreasury gave me a ZIP file of statements. What do I do with it?

Unzip it first. Regions says iTreasury bundles several statements or accounts into one ZIP download; drop the PDFs inside it in together. Months of the same account are read as one run, and a month missing from the middle shows as a break in the balances.

The month I need has gone from Online Banking. Can I still convert it?

Only once you have the PDF. Regions keeps seven years online; for anything else its help points to Order Statements & Check Copies, for a fee, or a branch. A copy on paper will need scanning, and a scan is read with less certainty than the PDF Online Banking gives you.

Privacy, scans and price work the same for every bank, and the home page answers them.
