PNC statement to CSV

Drop the PNC PDF as you downloaded it. It is converted on your computer, and we check that the rows carry the opening balance to the closing one. Then download it for your accounting software or a spreadsheet.

Getting the PDF out of PNC

  1. Sign on to Online Banking.
  2. Select Accounts, then find and select the account.
  3. Select Account Quick View.
  4. Select Statements and Documents.
  5. Select View PDF on the statement you want.

PNC writes these steps out on its personal Online Statements page. Its page on business Online Banking adds only that deposit account statements from the last 7 years are there to view, print or download, and 48 months on credit cards, and that a closed account has no online statement history.

Online, every account is a separate PDF: PNC’s Online Banking Service Agreement says combined statements are not available online.

Under Account Delegation, a business customer can give other people their own online access to all or part of the accounts, as Sub Users.

What a PNC statement looks like, and what we do with it

The Non-Profit Checking Summary comes first: a Balance Summary, average balances, a two-sided table of item counts and totals, and a Daily Balance table. The transactions follow under Activity Detail, Deposits and Other Additions before Checks and Other Deductions, each broken into kinds such as Deposits, ACH Additions, Debit Card Purchases and ACH Deductions. Rows are unsigned and dated 07/14; the year has to be read off "For the Period" with its two full dates, which every page repeats in its heading. A figure under a dollar loses its leading zero, so a side with no items totals .00.

The Balance Summary is four columns, Beginning balance, Deposits and other additions, Checks and other deductions and Ending balance, each heading over two lines.
We take the opening and closing balances from it and check that the rows carry one to the other.
In each section the amount comes before the description: Date posted, Amount, Transaction description, Reference number.
We find the amount by where the figures sit, and take its direction from the section, Deposits and Other Additions or Checks and Other Deductions.
Checks and Substitute Checks sets three checks across each line, with a star after the number where there is a "Gap in check sequence".
We read each check as its own row, its description the check number, the star where there is one, and the reference number.
Last month’s service charge is posted on the first as one line, "Service Charge Period Ending" and the closing date of the month before, while a Detail of Services Used table lists this month’s, which will be posted on the next statement.
We export the posted line and leave the table alone, so each fee is counted once, in the month it was taken.
Totals for each kind of item sit in two columns side by side, money in on the left and money out on the right.
We do not rely on them yet, so what proves a PNC statement is that its rows, added up, lead from the Beginning balance to the Ending balance.

What this page is based on

Two Non-Profit Checking statements, one from 2019 and one from 2022. The first, a parent group’s, holds three checks and nothing else. The second, a school network’s, runs to over a hundred rows of deposits, ACH payments, card and point-of-sale purchases, checks and a fee, and was published inside a monthly finance packet with a bank reconciliation worksheet as its first page. In both, the rows added up exactly to the step between the two balances in the Balance Summary. That is the one check this page claims, since we do not yet test our totals against the side-by-side table.

PNC Business Checking, Business Checking Plus and Analysis Business Checking have their own statements, which we have not read, and the same goes for Virtual Wallet on the personal side, PNC business credit cards and reports taken out of PINACLE.

Once it is converted, the import steps for each accounting package are the same for every bank.

Questions

Our PNC statement is part of a board or finance packet. Does it need cutting out?

Not for the packet we tested. The statement sat behind a bank reconciliation worksheet with its own balances, dates and totals, and every row we exported came from the statement, and together they account for every cent between the Beginning and Ending balances. The worksheet added nothing. A packet that sets statement pages among other papers is still worth checking row by row against the statement.

PNC no longer opens Non-Profit Checking. Does this page still apply?

To an existing account, yes. PNC’s business fee schedule still lists Non-Profit Checking, for organisations qualified as non-profits, and marks it as no longer available for new accounts. A non-profit opening an account with PNC now would be on another product, and that statement is one we have not tested.

Can I still download statements for a PNC account we closed?

Not from Online Banking. PNC says online statement history is not available once an account is closed, while an open deposit account keeps 7 years of them. Download what you need before closing an account; a statement saved as a PDF converts here whenever you get to it.

Privacy, scans and price work the same for every bank, and the home page answers them.
