M&T Bank statement to CSV

Drop the M&T Bank PDF as you downloaded it. It is converted on your computer, and we check every row against the running balance, compare the totals with the ones M&T Bank printed and check that the rows carry the opening balance to the closing one. Then download it for your accounting software or a spreadsheet.

Getting the PDF out of M&T Bank

  1. In M&T Commercial Treasury Center, click eStatements under the Reporting banner at the top of the home page.
  2. On the Statements tab, choose the account from the drop-down menu and click View.
  3. The statements are listed newest first: click the Statement: Month Year link for the one you want.

Those steps are from M&T’s eStatements guide for Commercial Treasury Center. M&T Online Banking for Business, the small business service, also receives electronic statements, but M&T’s written help gives no menu path for it.

Statements stay in the Statements and Notices service for seven years, as long as you remain enrolled and keep electronic delivery. A paper copy of one can be asked for from Customer Service, at whatever charge applies.

From M&T Bank’s own help: eStatements User Guide (Commercial Treasury Center), M&T Online Banking for Business, Digital Services Agreement.

What a M&T Bank statement looks like, and what we do with it

Each statement opens with the ACCOUNT TYPE and STATEMENT PERIOD at the top right and a short summary beneath them: BEGINNING BALANCE, DEPOSITS & CREDITS, LESS CHECKS & DEBITS, LESS SERVICE CHARGES and ENDING BALANCE. ACCOUNT ACTIVITY follows in five columns, POSTING DATE, TRANSACTION DESCRIPTION, DEPOSITS & OTHER CREDITS (+), WITHDRAWALS & OTHER DEBITS (-) and DAILY BALANCE, opening on a BEGINNING BALANCE row with the rows in date order after it. Every row carries its full date with a four-digit year, 03/04/2025, and amounts carry no sign; only the first figure in each column on page 1 takes a dollar sign.

Each money heading is stacked over lines of its own, "DEPOSITS & OTHER" over "CREDITS (+)" and "WITHDRAWALS &" over "OTHER DEBITS (-)", with "TRANSACTION DESCRIPTION" set between the lines.
We join each heading’s lines into one column name, so money in and money out keep their columns.
The DAILY BALANCE column is filled only on the last transaction of each day, so a day of several deposits prints a single balance, beside its last one.
We check each day’s transactions together against the balance at its end, so a misread amount still shows on the day it happened.
The summary prints LESS SERVICE CHARGES apart from LESS CHECKS & DEBITS, while the SERVICE CHARGE FOR ACCOUNT row sits among the other debits in the activity.
We add the service charges to the checks and debits before comparing our money out with the summary, and check the rows carry the BEGINNING BALANCE to the ENDING BALANCE.
Each statement numbers its pages, as "PAGE 1 OF 2", and a file can hold several accounts’ statements cut to their first pages, one page 1 after another.
We start a new statement at each page 1, so each account opens on its own, with its own balances and totals.

What this page is based on

Five accounts from three Chapter 11 filings: a month of Professional Services Checking from 2025, a month of Corporate Checking held by a debtor in possession in 2024, and a 2026 filing that kept only the first page of a Business Premium Checking account and two Simple Checking for Business accounts, all for the same month. Every account passed all three checks: each day’s rows against its DAILY BALANCE, our money in and out against the summary with service charges counted in, and the BEGINNING BALANCE carried to the ENDING BALANCE. The two longer statements held well over a hundred rows each. We also read the one-page M&T Savings specimen on M&T’s own site, whose single interest row agreed with its balance.

M&T now offers Business Essential Checking and Business Plus Checking, and neither has come our way; nor has a personal MyChoice Plus Checking statement or an M&T Business Rewards Credit Card one. Each statement we read is in M&T’s older layout, so the redesign below is unproven.

Once it is converted, the import steps for each accounting package are the same for every bank.

Questions

M&T has redesigned its eStatements. Does the new layout convert?

We have not read one yet. M&T’s new eStatement design page explains a Serial Number for each item, a Daily Balance that can include pending transactions, and a Ledger Balance for the end of the previous business day. Every statement on this page, the latest from 2026, has the older single DAILY BALANCE column. Drop a redesigned one in and look at what the checks say before you rely on it.

We are closing our M&T account. What happens to the eStatements?

Download them first. M&T’s Digital Services Agreement says electronic documents are no longer available on its website once the account is closed. While it stays open, they are kept for seven years.

I only have page 1 of each M&T account’s statement. Is that enough to convert?

It can be. Page 1 holds the summary with the ENDING BALANCE, and in the file we tested all three accounts’ rows fitted on their first pages too, each reaching that balance. Where an account’s rows run on to a page that was cut, they stop short of the ENDING BALANCE and we say so, instead of exporting a short month.

Can I export M&T transactions to Quicken or Excel without the statement?

For recent activity. M&T’s Digital Services Agreement lets you export account information to Quicken or to spreadsheet software such as Excel for recent transaction history, and Direct Connect links an account to Quicken or QuickBooks for a monthly fee. A month already closed on a statement, especially one that only exists as a PDF in a filing, is what the converter is for.

Privacy, scans and price work the same for every bank, and the home page answers them.
