Kiwibank statement to CSV
Drop the Kiwibank PDF as you downloaded it. It is converted on your computer, and we check every row against the running balance and check that the rows carry the opening balance to the closing one. Then download it for your accounting software or a spreadsheet.
Getting the PDF out of Kiwibank
- Log in to internet banking.
- Click Settings at the top of the screen.
- Under Transactions and Accounts, click Statement vault.
- Click Download for each statement you want, and it downloads as a PDF. For statements older than 12 months, click Show All first.
Statements can be downloaded only in internet banking, not in the app. In the refreshed internet banking they are also reached from the accounts overview, through the three dots at the bottom right of the account’s box.
For an accountant, Kiwibank offers a data view only user in internet banking for business, who can see your accounts and transactions but cannot make payments or change details. You add one under Settings, then Manage data users.

What a Kiwibank statement looks like, and what we do with it
Page one lists every account the statement covers with its balance on the closing date, and from page two each account has a block of its own: Account Name, Product Name, Personalised Name and Statement Period, then a table headed Date, Transaction, Withdrawals, Deposits and Balance. Withdrawals and deposits are unsigned and in separate columns, every figure carries a dollar sign, and a transaction’s own line ends with the balance it left, in date order. A statement period need not be a calendar month; one we tested ran from late April to late August.
- Every line of a transaction repeats its date, the "Ref:" line under it included, and an automatic payment’s lines print PERIODIC PAY where the balance would be.
- We read a dated line with no money on it as more of the row above, so the reference, and PERIODIC PAY where it is printed, join the payee in one description, with any line wrapped under them.
- The reference of a page’s last transaction can be printed at the top of the next page, above another transaction on the same day.
- We leave that reference off rather than give it to the transaction below it, which is not its own.
- The table opens with a dated "Opening Account Balance..." and closes with "Closing Account Balance...", and no totals of money in and out are printed.
- We take the opening and closing balances from those lines and export neither, check every row against the running balance, and check the rows arrive at the closing balance.
- Upcoming Payments follows the closing balance, each line with a payment due after the statement ends, its date and its amount.
- We read none of it as a transaction.
- One statement can hold several accounts, each with its own Opening and Closing Account Balance lines, and an account that did nothing in the period still prints both.
- Each account is checked against its own balances, and none runs on from the account printed above it.
What this page is based on
Three statements from three community groups in 2024, published with council grant and community board papers. The main one is a Now Account statement of about four months, close to seventy rows, in which every balance agreed with our arithmetic and the closing figure was reached exactly. The other two are short: a five-account statement, four Free Up Accounts and an Online Call Account, where the two accounts that moved money each reconciled on their own, and a one-account statement with a single payment.
Kiwibank issues its Business+ Visa and Business Low Rate Visa in the cardholder’s name, so they are not in the business account list by default, and none of their statements has reached us. Neither has a Business Edge or Notice Saver statement.
Once it is converted, the import steps for each accounting package are the same for every bank.
Questions
Kiwibank no longer offers the Now Account. Is its statement still covered?
Yes, as far as our samples go. Kiwibank stopped offering the Now Account in March 2021, but existing accounts carry on, and the Now Account statement we tested is from 2024. The Free Up and Online Call Accounts on our five-account statement print the same table.
Kiwibank’s internet banking exports CSV and OFX already. When is the PDF the better start?
When the period is older than two years. Kiwibank’s export offers CSV, JSON, OFX, QIF and PDF, but it is limited to two years, and Kiwibank sends you to your statements for anything older. A statement also prints opening and closing balances, which is what lets us prove each row.
Our club has several Kiwibank accounts on one statement. Can I get each one separately?
Yes. Each account’s block prints its own account number and balances, and we split the statement by account, so each is checked on its own and opens in a tab of its own. The numbers were missing from the published copy we tested, and its two accounts that moved money still came apart and reconciled separately.
Privacy, scans and price work the same for every bank, and the home page answers them.
