Fifth Third statement to CSV

Drop the Fifth Third PDF as you downloaded it. It is converted on your computer, and we compare the totals with the ones Fifth Third printed and check that the rows carry the opening balance to the closing one. Then download it for your accounting software or a spreadsheet.

Getting the PDF out of Fifth Third

Fifth Third’s online banking for business lets you view, print and save the last twenty-four months of statements and check images.

In the Fifth Third mobile app, an account’s statements and documents are behind the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the account.

Anything older is a duplicate statement, which Fifth Third’s business fee schedule lists as a charged service.

What a Fifth Third statement looks like, and what we do with it

The top right of page 1 gives the Statement Period Date and an Account Type in Fifth Third’s own shorthand, such as 5/3 BUS ELITE CKG. Below come the Account Summary, an analysis of the previous month’s service charges, and then the transactions in up to three blocks: Checks, Withdrawals / Debits and Deposits / Credits. Every amount is unsigned and no row has a balance beside it; rows are dated month and day, 05/02, the checks in number order and the rest oldest first, and a Daily Balance Summary comes last.

The Account Summary counts each kind of item beside its total and prints money out in parentheses after the dollar sign, "$(" and the figure, with Checks and Withdrawals / Debits above Deposits / Credits, between a dated Beginning Balance and Ending Balance.
We read a figure in "$( )" as money out, add the checks and the other withdrawals into one money-out figure, compare our money in and out with the summary, and check the rows carry the Beginning Balance to the Ending Balance.
Checks are set three to a line under "Number | Date Paid | Amount", with marks after the number: an asterisk for a gap in the sequence, i for an electronic image and s for a substitute check, so a number can end in "*i".
We read each check as its own transaction, dated by the day it was paid, with its number and marks as the description.
Withdrawals / Debits and Deposits / Credits are tables of their own, headed "Date | Amount | Description" with the amount before the description, and each heading gives its count and total, as "items totaling" and the sum.
We take each row’s direction from the table it is listed under, so no amount needs a sign of its own.
Above the transactions, an analysis of the month before lists each service charge with its price, such as a STOP PAYMENT or a WIRE, and says the day the total was withdrawn; the Daily Balance Summary sets three days to a line after them.
We read neither as transactions. The service charge itself is listed among the withdrawals on the day it was taken, and is read there.

What this page is based on

Three statements from two Chapter 11 debtors: April and May 2022 of one Business Elite Checking account, and a month of Business Checking from 2026 with only four rows. Each matched its Account Summary on checks, withdrawals and deposits, the longest across close to a hundred rows, and each reached its Ending Balance. In these filings the court’s stamp shares a line with the Statement Period Date, and each period is still read as printed, so opened together the two months join into one account, May following on from the balance April closed on.

Fifth Third Business Premium Checking, its public funds and commercial analyzed accounts, the Simply Business Card and personal accounts like Momentum Checking all lie outside what we have checked. We do hold one public funds statement, but only as a scan, and it has not been through the checks yet.

Once it is converted, the import steps for each accounting package are the same for every bank.

Questions

What do 5/3 BUS ELITE CKG and 5/3 BUSINESS CKG on my statement mean?

They are the Account Type in Fifth Third’s shorthand, 5/3 for Fifth Third and CKG for checking: the Business Elite Checking Account and the Business Checking Account, both still offered on Fifth Third’s site. Those two are what this page was tested on.

Can I pull Fifth Third transactions into QuickBooks without the PDF?

Through Direct Connect, yes. Fifth Third’s Quicken and QuickBooks FAQs say it does not support Web Connect downloads for QuickBooks, but Direct Connect gives statement transaction downloads for checking, savings and credit accounts. Converting the statement suits a month already closed, a statement taken from a filing, or software Direct Connect does not reach.

I need Fifth Third statements older than two years. Where do they come from?

Online banking holds twenty-four months. Beyond that, Fifth Third’s business fee schedule lists duplicate statements and research among its charged services, so save each month’s PDF while it is online. A duplicate that arrives on paper has to be scanned before it can be converted.

Can someone other than a signer get our Fifth Third statements?

Fifth Third ties a checking account to its signers. Its business banking FAQs say you must be a signer to look into a checking account, and that with Fifth Third Direct, its treasury management service, a signer can give access to authorized users. So a bookkeeper either gets the PDFs from a signer or needs a Fifth Third Direct user of their own.

Privacy, scans and price work the same for every bank, and the home page answers them.
