CIBC statement to CSV
Drop the CIBC PDF as you downloaded it. It is converted on your computer, and we check every row against the running balance and compare the totals with the ones CIBC printed. Then download it for your accounting software or a spreadsheet.
Getting the PDF out of CIBC
- Sign on to CIBC Online Banking as a signatory or co-signatory on the business account.
- Select View eStatements.
There is nothing to sign up for: a signatory or co-signatory with CIBC Online Banking sees the business eStatements automatically, up to 7 years of them, and can download and save each one.
Through CIBC Online Banking an eStatement arrives once a month, at month-end. On CIBC Cash Management Online (CMO) it comes on the statement cycle you chose, from the CMO Welcome Page, once you are entitled to eStatements.
eStatements do not contain cheque images, and they cost nothing extra for Canadian and U.S. dollar business accounts.

What a CIBC statement looks like, and what we do with it
Under the heading CIBC Account Statement, an Account summary sets the month out as a sum, and the Transaction details table below it is headed Date, Description, Withdrawals ($), Deposits ($) and Balance ($). Neither money column uses a sign, each row shows where the balance stood after it, and the month reads top to bottom from earliest between an Opening balance and a Closing balance line, both of which print with a dollar sign where the rows have none.
- Dates are the month and day, written Dec 30, with no year beside them; that sits at the top right, in a line that reads "For Dec 1 to Dec 31," and then the year.
- We take the year from that line and write every row’s date in full, year first.
- Only the first transaction of a day carries its date.
- We carry the date down to the rows beneath it until the next one.
- The table opens with an Opening balance row and closes with a Closing balance row.
- We take both balances from them and export neither as a transaction.
- The Account summary prints Withdrawals with a minus and Deposits with a plus, between the opening balance and an equals sign before the closing one.
- We compare our money out and money in with them, reading the sign as direction.
What this page is based on
One CIBC Account Statement for a business account, covering December 2022, which a Canadian city published as an example of a bank statement with the company name and account number masked. It is the first of the statement’s two pages, and the table ends on it with the closing balance. Each of its three rows reconciled with the balance beside it, and our withdrawals and deposits matched the Account summary to the cent.
Our one CIBC statement is a single month with three fee rows, so a long, busy CIBC month is untested, as are CIBC U.S. Dollar Current Accounts and CIBC Business Investment Growth Accounts. None of CIBC’s business credit cards, such as the Aventura Visa Card for Business or the bizline Visa Card, has been converted here.
Once it is converted, the import steps for each accounting package are the same for every bank.
Questions
What is the PAPER STMNT FEE on my CIBC statement?
A charge for the paper copy. The statement we tested lists PAPER STMNT FEE as a withdrawal, and CIBC’s eStatements page says turning off paper statements avoids paper statement fees. The same statement charges an ACCOUNT FEE and returns it as a BALANCE FEE WAIVER on the same day. We export all three rows as printed, so the fee and its waiver cancel out in your ledger.
I use CIBC SmartBanking for Business. Why convert eStatements at all?
CIBC SmartBanking for Business shows transaction history for up to 13 months and tells you to find older transactions in your eStatements, which go back up to 7 years. Its QuickBooks and Xero connections are a monthly paid add-on. For a year that has passed out of the 13-month window, the eStatements are what is left, and those are what we convert.
Can I convert a year of CIBC eStatements together?
Yes. CIBC Online Banking issues a business eStatement once a month, at month-end, and keeps up to 7 years, so download the twelve and open them at once. Each statement takes its year from its own "For ... to ..." line, so a December and the January after it are dated correctly. One account’s months open as one statement, and a month that does not start on the balance the last one closed on is flagged as a break.
Privacy, scans and price work the same for every bank, and the home page answers them.
